Brad Antchak, Connor Chorpita selected to second team

Brad Antchak of the North Delta Blue Jays was named the winner of the B.C. Premier Baseball League’s Golden Glove award.

Award winners in the 18-and-under elite league were announced Monday, and Antchak was one of four local players honoured.

The Sands Secondary student played in all 48 games for the Blue Jays and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Antchak was also named a second-team all-star at first base, after hitting .331 with 19 runs scored and 19 RBIs.

Connor Chorpita of the Whalley Chiefs was also a second-team all-star in the outfield. Chorpita is also a Sands Secondary student who hit .331. He also had 23 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Two Surrey residents playing with the Langley Blaze were named first-team all-stars in the outfield.

Shoma Sasaki led the league in on-base percentage (.514) and runs scored (65), and was also third in the league batting race with a .373 average. He was fourth in hits with 53.

Cloverdale’s Mitch Robinson had the most hits with 55, was second in the PBL with 16 doubles, and was fifth in the league batting race with a .369 average.
