The fifth Blue Tie Golf Campaign is set to tee off on Aug. 25 at the Morningstar Golf Club in Parksville.
The annual event is a fundraiser in support of the work of Island Prostrate Centre. It is the legacy campaign established as a result of a local group of volunteers that dedicated their time to help shed light on prostate cancer, one of the most common cancer among Canadian men.
The Blue Tie Golf tournament had been hosted over the last four years, helping to build awareness while raising $101,600 in support of Island Prostate Centre. Last year the campaign raised $34,200.
All of the funds raised stayed locally to support Vancouver Island men and their families when faced with a prostate diagnosis.
The format is an 18-hole four person team scramble. There will also be dinner, draws, raffles and auction opportunities.
According to the Island Prostate Centre one in seven men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. To help these men, campaign organizers are encouraging people to come out to golf with a friend, partner, family member or colleague to keep the momentum and support going on Saturday.
The organizers are asking participants on August 25 to put on a blue shirt to continue to build on the support for men and their families dealing with prostate cancer through free supportive care programs and services.
“Prostate Cancer affects one in seven men. If you look around your circle of family or friends, everyone has been impacted by this disease,” stated Leanne Kopp, executive director of Island Prostate Centre.
“Our centre receives no government or health authority funding but reaches out and helps over 3,000 men and families in our community every year.
“An event like the Blue Tie Golf Campaign, previously hosted as a tournament, has a huge impact on our sustainability and allows us to provide help to everyone who needs it.”
