The 2012 Glacier Greens Shoot Out ended up being a family affair.
Saturday started damp with a threat of rain as the 112 participants teed it up for the third and final round of the 17th annual men’s shoot out. The tournament is played over three weekends using a Ryder Cup format. First it was best ball, then scramble and on the last day the exciting and challenging alternate shot.
The father and son team of Bob and Jeff Edwards started the day four shots behind the second-round leaders but put together a solid round and after the last putt had dropped the two teams were tied. In keeping with men’s club policy a count-back was needed to determine the winner.
The Edwards team was declared the winners with a three-day total of 207. Also at 207 and in second place was the team of club president James Dickson and Sheldon Theriault. Third place went to Don Buchan and Randy Robinson with 211. Then it was Jim Larocque and Stan Mills with 216. Bud Bryan and Bruce Coulter, and Rob Hill and Richard Martin tied for fifth at 218.
On the net side it was Hugh Scoullar and Richard Wand with 179. Next at 180 were the first- and second-round leaders Ron Carter and Rick Verbeek. Don Cruickshank and Paul Schroeder were third with 181.5. Tied for fourth at 183.5 were the teams of Mike Berger and Andy Clark and Dave Buckley-Jones and Mike Worley. Tied for fifth at 184 were Elmo Guinan and Jack Jackson and Ken Doll and Roy Hagg.
The sun came out as the tournament ended and the players enjoyed our large patio and were treated to a fine roast beef lunch and each visited a well-stocked prize table. KP prizes and snip monies were presented to many of the teams. The Memorial Bridge fundraising project was a success and thanks to all that contributed. Special thanks to club member Lee Johnson who once again donated a hand-painted framed picture to the project.
The organizing committee thanks Bill Kelly and his Pro Shop staff, Justin Lafortune and his club house staff, as well as Gary Wood from Slegg Lumber, Toscanos, Boston Pizza, the Whistle Stop Pub, and Chances.
