Bocce proves a ball

Oceanside Special Olympics draws rave reviews from B.C. organizers for running of 32-team zone tournament at Community Park in Parksville

The Oceanside local successfully hosted B.C.’s largest bocce tournament at Community Park in Parksville Sunday, hosting 128 athletes representing 32 teams in the qualifier for next year’s provincial tournament.

“They’ve done an amazing job,” Special Olympics B.C. official Leslie Thornley said of local organizers, led by Jacquie Cameron. “If we could, I would take this template and create it in all the other regions.”

The event featured 70 local volunteers.
