Williams Lake downhill ski racer Austin Boehm will compete March 31 to April 2 at Big White for the Western Ski Cross Series finals.
Ski cross racing, despite being a timed event, differs from traditional ski racing in that more than one skier race down the course together.
Boehm has seen success on the slopes this season, racing his second event at the Western Ski Cross Series at Tabor in Prince George from Jan. 20-22 where he secured a first-place result against racers from Lake Louise and Whistler.
In Boehm’s next race, from Feb. 2-5, he competed in slalom and giant slalom at Red Mountain in Rossland — a different series competing against racers from across the province.
At the northern Tech race at Troll Mountain just outside Quesnel from Feb. 17-19, Boehm skied to two second-place results, before making his longest trip of the season for the Western Ski Cross Series in Lake Louise from Feb. 24-26 — the only time he didn’t medal during the year.
The following week he enjoyed a ski week with his dad and his brother before ending with his fourth race in Fernie from March 3-5. In Fernie, Austin was able to secure a second-place finish in both races.
After the Western Ski Cross finals in Big White, Boehm will compete at the northern region finals in Smithers at Hudson’s Bay Mountain from April 5-9.
