Chilliwack’s Corben Bowen travels to Nevada this week to play rugby in the Las Vegas International tournament.

The GW Graham grad is part of BC Rugby’s U-18 gold Elite Boys’ 7s team, returning to this event for a third time.

In 2015 he captained B.C. to a gold medal win.

Last year’s trip ended with a heartbreaking last minute loss and now he’s back, part of a 12 man roster gunning for gold.

“If we make the final we get to play in the (Sam Boyd) stadium, in front of 20,000 people, and it’ll be televised and all that,” he said.

The tournament started Thursday and ends Saturday. It is billed as the largest rugby tournament in North America.

The B.C. Rugby Elite program Bowen represents is, according to the B.C. Rugby website, “designed to help develop young athletes into the rugby players who will be best qualified to represent Canada with distinction at future Olympic Games and on the World Rugby 7s circuit.”
