Bowlers wrap up successful season

Special Needs Recreation holds year-end awards banquet

Over 70 bowlers, family members and friends gathered to celebrate achievements and to reminisce over the past year. The very popular Tuesday and Wednesday Afternoon Bowling Leagues have been in existence over 25 years and have 55 bowlers and 12 dedicated volunteers.

“The credit is all due to the volunteers,” said Heather Crites, Special Needs Recreation Co-Ordinator. “Without these wonderful volunteers, this league would not be possible. And a big bouquet goes especially to volunteer Brian Booth for organizing all the awards. It’s a big job and all the work is very very appreciated.”

Crites also thanked the staff of Codes Country Lanes for their wonderful and invaluable support all year; the Comox Legion and Legion Auxiliary for their ongoing interest and support and who provided the fine banquet; and finally Courtenay Recreation and the Courtenay Recreational Association for their on-going sponsorship.

Highlights of the year were:

High Averages Tuesday League:  Daniel Erb 124, Allison Bennett 126.

High Averages Wednesday League:  Jack Errington 157, Karen Slater 147.

Sportsmanship Award: Lindsay Clayton and Randy Poole for exceptional sportsmanship all year.

200 Club – bowlers who bowled over 200 in a single game: Jack Errington 258, Karen Slater 230, Larry McCooey 207, Jim Battram 238, Allison Bennett 215.
