The Mens’ and Ladies’ Provincial Fours are coming to Vancouver Island as Bowls B.C. has selected the Qualicum Beach and Nanaimo lawn bowling clubs to host this event.
According to QBLBC’s Jane Nielsen, the three-day tournament will have the men playing at Qualicum and the ladies in Nanaimo.
Oceanside, she says, “will be well represented and along with teams coming from up and down the Island and from the Mainland, it should provide some excellent competition.”
A double knockout format, the tournament will have teams going for gold, silver and bronze, with the winners to represent BC at the National Championships in Vancouver Aug 17-25.
The action gets underway in both Qualicum and Nanaimo July 12 with one evening game starting at 6 p.m., followed by three games on Saturday (10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.)
Sunday’s finals go at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. with the gold medal game to start at around 5 p.m.
“With the tournament being held on our home turf and with the calibre of bowlers we have on the Island there is a good possibility that one of our Island teams could represent the province in the National Championships,” says Nielsen, adding “we welcome everyone to come out and watch some great bowling.”
