A trio of Vernon Boxing Club members turned in solid performances at the B.C. Silver Gloves tournament last weekend in Richmond.

Joe Sigalet, in a three-round senior heavyweight bout, fell to Rock Ancrand of Nanaimo in a very close decision.

“This fight was really too close to call, so the decision could have went either way,” said Vernon coach Brian Jones.

Frankie Jacobs, another senior super-heavy weight, dropped another close decision to Lyle Chapman of Salmon Arm.

In an exhibition match, Vernon’s Julian Caird moved up from senior light-heavyweight to take on heavyweight Soheil Binniz of Richmond, who was the hometown coach and crowd favourite.

Binniz had already fought Nigel Cieser of Nanaimo on Saturday, knocking him out in the first round.

“Julian stepped up in weight to fight Soheil, and gave him a bloody boxing lesson, coming away without a scratch, beating him all three rounds easily,” said Jones. “But due to it being in two different weight divisions, they would not announce a decision.”
