Boyd glides to silver in Parksville

Brittany Boyd won a silver medal at the recent Vancouver Island Skate International competition.

Brittany Boyd, 11, from the 100 Mile Figure Skating Club, edged her way through the competition to collect a silver medal at the recent Vancouver Island Skate International competition.

It took place April 15-17 in Parksville with competitors coming from as far away as the Yukon Territory.

Boyd’s medal came in Pre Preliminary Freeskate, and she also earned a sixth-place standing in Preliminary Elements competition and placed 13th in Introductory Interpretive.

She has had a successful freeskate competition season; having won bronze at Penticton’s Ogopogo in February, silver at Cariboots ‘n Blades in January in Williams Lake, and sixth place at Regionals in January in Kelowna.

In addition to her medal at the Vancouver Island event, Boyd also came home with a new bike that she won in a raffle draw, which was held at the competition.
