Saanich Braves own 3-2 lead in Island league playoff series with Campbell River Storm

The captain and the veteran are united, and it’s paying off for the Saanich Braves.

19-year-old captain Ty Jones and 21-year-old James Kellington scored 10 points between them at Pearkes arena Wednesday as the Braves relcaimed the series lead over Campbell River Storm with a 7-3 win.

Game 6 goes tonight in Campbell River. Saanich leads the series 3-2 and can win tonight. Elsewhere in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League, the Kerry Park Islanders are up 3-2 against the Comox Valley Glaciers and can win that series in Kerry Park tonight.

The Peninsula Panthers take their third crack at eliminating the Oceanside Generals on Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Panorama.

With Jack Palmer out of Wednesday’s tilt, coach Brad Cook combined Jones and Kellington on the same line, resulting in immediate chemistry. Jones scored three goals, two assists and Kellington earned five assists.

The two are now tied for the VIJHL lead in playoff scoring with 13 points.

Adam Wade, Andrew White, Nick Vanstone and Sam McMullen also scored for the Braves.

Tanner McGaw earned the win, having played the entirety of the series in net for the Braves so far.
