Kael Black scored the winner on a breakaway with 60 seconds remaining, the assist going to Halle Higgins-Wilson in the season opener for both teams.
Cody Webb and Reid Lawrence also scored for the Blues, who got solid goaltending from Dylan Blazek and Sam Knox.
Carly Southam, Carter Morris and Nick Mitchell countered for the Flames.
