The packed crowd at Priest Valley Arena was treated to a high-octane Novice ringette tilt Saturday as the Ice Breakers outgunned the Strikers 14-6 in an all-Vernon battle.

The Strikers opened the scoring with an early goal by Sydney Lewis, assisted by Teagan Schober. The Breakers replied two minutes later with a snipe from Jordan Tung, fed by Amelia Johnson.

With the Breakers leading 5-4 at half, Sierra Fernley (3+1) scored twice early in the second to give the Strikers the lead. However, the Breakers bounced back after a timeout with strong offensive efforts from Kristen Francks (3+2), Makenna Jackson (3+1), Hillary Quiring (2+2), Zion White (2+1) and Sadie Christensen (1+1).

Also scoring for the Strikers were Aimee Skinner and Brianna Visser. Adding to the Ice Breakers’ offence were Johnson and Verity White, with her first goal of the season. Goaltender Taylor Hewitt netted her first win for the Breakers.

After a lengthy Christmas break, the Belle Raid bowed 8-7 to the Junior A Rush in another all-Vernon tilt Saturday at PV.

The Raid started quickly, with Dayce Knopf getting her first of three goals less than a minute into the game. Shelby Connors replied quickly for the Rush. It was 3-3 after only 10 minutes as Ashleigh Cohen and Brenna Beck counted for the Raid, and Emma Carter and Kendra Ostafie for the Rush.

The Junior crew took its first lead with five minutes left in the period on a snipe Alex Drury. The teams swapped late goals, with Cohen and Ostafie both getting their second tallies, to make it 5-4 Rush at the break.

The Rush came out flying in the second, with Ostafie completing her hat trick, and singles by Saige Woodliffe and Connors giving the Rush an 8-4 lead. Just when it looked over, the Raid woke up and Knopf completed her hatty with back-to-back goals before Ashley Eso made it 8-7 with four minutes left. The Rush tightened up on defence to help Maddie Fox pick up the win.

In Tween A action, Brooke Buller and Caenen Wisse shared the win as the Vernon Rush doubled the Salmon Arm Eliminators 6-3 in a penalty-filled game.

Abygayle Williamson (2+2) opened the scoring on a feed from Hailey Quiring. Quiring, Brynn Taylor-Hawes and Kalen Webster each had singles, while Madison Fox and Georgia Lannon stood strong on defence.

Kristin Ho fired four goals and Makenna Jackson supplied two as the Vernon Flare bounced Kelowna 6-3 in Petite play.

Following an early goal by Kelowna, the Flare responded on Ho’s first snipe, assisted by Bryn Korol. Play went back and forth, with Ho and Novice call-up Makenna Jackson helping Vernon earn a 3-3 draw heading into the break.

The Flare kept pressing in the second, led by two more snipes by Ho, one assisted by Abby Sveistrup and Samantha Shaw. Jackson, assisted by Ashely Wadsworth, completed the attack.

The Flare got great efforts by Miah Cohen, Chloe Scaber and Jasmine Horton in front of goalie Kaila Summerfelt.
