Two female bowlers from Nanaimo’s Brechin Lanes ended their seasons by winning major championships.
Mikayla Eby won the Youth Bowling Canada junior girls’ five-pin championship earlier this month, while Morgan Theedom won the B.C. Five-Pin Bowlers’ Association’s B.C. Open women’s championship last month.
Eby averaged 214 over 22 games at the three-day event in Toronto and Oshawa, then needed a tie-breaker game because she and another girl had each won 17 games. In the tiebreaker, Eby defeated Maude Durand-Rondeau of Gatineau, Que., 239-202.
Theedom’s victory Easter weekend in Chilliwack also came down to the wire. She averaged 248 over the 10-game round robin, qualifying her for the playoffs. There, she advanced in the double-knockout brackets and had to defeat the top seed twice in a row to win the B.C. Open. Theedom swept Brittany Dacosta 243-195, then 257-231.
