With best times and broken club records, the Orcas just keep rising to the top.
“We’re on the right track,” coach Dusan Toth-Szabo said.
The Orcas came back from the AAA championships in Victoria with new times and strengthened confidence.
“All of them got a club record,” he said.
Kara DeClark got a club record in 100 freestyle, Bailey McLeod in 400 freestyle, Maria de Leeuw in 200 breaststroke and Faith Knelson in 100 breaststroke.
“They’ve done very good.”
DeClark also had four best times, de Leeuw five, Knelson three and McLeod five.
“Maria also made finals in every event and Bailey had his five best times out of the six events,” he said.
de Leeuw came home with a silver medal in the 200 breaststroke and a bronze in the 100 breaststroke.
“She was only two seconds away from the national qualifying time,” Toth-Szabo said.
Knelson, 9, was swimming against girls two years older than her, he said. “She was experiencing a higher level of swimming.”
The swimmers are taking a spring break before starting long course swimming in 50 metre pools this April.
The AAA Age group championships were March 3 to 6 at Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria.
