Bronze for Yee in Ottawa competition

Hazelton's Regan Yee had yet another top performance last weekend at the 35th annual Royal Canadian Legion you and midget track and field championships at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa.

Hazelton’s Regan Yee had yet another top performance last weekend at the 35th annual Royal Canadian Legion you and midget track and field championships at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa.

As a member of Team BC, Yee competed in the 2000 meter steeplechase race hand came home with the bronze with a time of 6:57.60 which was faster than the old National Championship record.

Coach Neal Currie said this year’s competitors were among some of the best every.

“This was the strongest field the championships have ever seen,” he said. “The top three girls all broke the old record and there were two former National Champions running in the event, one of whom finished out of the medals.”

Almost 1,000 athletes between the ages of 14 and 17 competed over the weekend and the national championships are not only sanctioned by Athletics Canada, they also conduct advance training clinics for athletes with some of Canada’s top coaches.
