The Blues and Mangos drew 4-4 in a thrilling, rain-drenched Royal LePage Under 13 boys soccer game Saturday afternoon at Marshall Field #2.
Rylan Brown pulled the hat trick for the Blues, while Brandon Chai added a single. Steven Benischek and Seb Wenger turned in stellar showings for the Blues.
Brendan Whitmore, Jude Kronbauer, Ethan Clancy and Jake Slade supplied goals for the Mangos, who got some regal play from Joe Bateman, Garrett Birch and Cooper McGeough.
In other U13 play, the Whites shut down the Reds 2-0 with Chris Aldrich a superstar in goal as he capped off a dazzling performance by doing the splits and saving a sure goal with his toe in the last minute.
Ben Poulin provided a gorgeous goal, placing the ball neatly inside the post. Brendan Yakura took a sweet corner which Gavin Huggins tapped it in for insurance.
Tyler Jackson had a great second half for the Whites and outhustled everybody on the field. Bold defence came from Callum Watson and Jack Hesketh.
In Subway U14/15 girls play Saturday in the drizzle, Team White Power Puff Girls clipped Team Silver 2-1 in a hard-fought contest.
Team White went up with the first goal coming of a strong boot from Paige Hanson with good ball movement from Kiona Ramsey.
In the second half, Silver evened up the score, and then with time running down White was awarded a free kick which Tamara Nichol kicked and Paige Hanson deflected into the net.
Avery Schneider and Emily Medema were solid in net.
In Subway U18 girls action, H&L Glass grounded shorthanded H&R Block 5-2 with keeper Daniella Lenton using her big boot and good hand-eye co-ordination to stop many attacks from H&R.
H&R Block coach Shelly Johnston said Player of the Game Taylor Gray “was impenetrable on the back line working hard at attacking, checking and getting back to clear the zone.”
Support came from Kaylee Barss, Kayla Berlinski and Carly Alexander.
Added Johnston: “Megan Squair was unstoppable as she continually worked the line, leaving the opposition guessing what she could do next. With magnificent crosses and fancy foot work, she was a force, always looking up to send the ball over to the waiting strikers.”
Squair and Erin Hickman provided the goals for H&L Glass, who got superb work from middles/forwards Maraid Raupach and Alyssa Embleton and centre mid Sam Bienias.
In other U18 Subway play, Team Silver bounced Kia Reds 6-0.
Scoring for Silver were Alysha Brule, Megan Johnson, Megan Reeves, Doortje Geelkerken, Ciana Fitzpatrick and Gabby Edblad.
The Nixon Wenger Bombers battled Caufield Engraving to an entertaining 1-1 draw in another U18 match.
The shortstaffed Bombers ran hard in the wet weather, but found themselves down a goal after Caufield struck on a rebound midway through the first half.
Despite not having any subs, the Bombers came out determined to equalize in the second half,with Melanie Wakutz and Aliyah Akkurt both running miles in midfield.
The Bombers were finally rewarded when Nicky Watson forced a turnover deep in the Caufield end and got the ball to Ashley Eso, whose cross found Wakutz alone in front of the net and she made no mistake.
The Bombers got stellar goalkeeping from Watson and Kendall Tomiak, who was playing her first-ever game in net.
In Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers U9 girls play during the Saturday morning mist at Creekside Park, the Navy Ninjas and Team Orange put on an entertaining show.
Jordyn Kisilevich and Kristyn Johnston shared the goalkeeping duties for the Ninjas, catching lots of balls and charging out against the Orange teamfor some clutch saves.
Splendid hustle was turned in by Ninjas’ Sophia Stoddart, Jorja Catt, Lily Lee, Cassidy Lavigne, Julianna Spitzer, Ekroop Janda, Kerah Trottier, Ava Wright and Macie Lewis.
“Both teams were speedy and played the usual busy-bee formation,” said Ninja coach Shelly Johnston. “It was a game of fun and learning for all of the girls on both teams. The ref was very helpful and allowed the girls to practise their throw-ins and helped teach the rules of the game.”
