The Border Bruins picked up their first play-off win in what is thought to be decades on Wednesday. The Bruins evened their series with Castlegar at 1-1 after beating the Rebels on the road 4-2.
Logan Hascarl opened the scoring up for the Bruins with a power play marker at 18:55 of the first period assisted by Jordan Robertson and Ryland Smaha-Muir. Three unanswered goals by the Bears in the first period (by Bryson Yee, Chad Grambo and Trey Mason) gave the team an insurmountable 4-0 lead on the road.
The Rebels were able to get two late second period goals but were unable to narrow the gap in the third. Anthony Galliart picked up the win for Grand forks turning away 41 of 43 shots.
Castlegar took the 1-0 series lead with a 3-1 win on Tuesday at the Castlegar Complex. Carson Wornig got the winner for the Rebels early in the third period. Jordan Robertson (assisted by Brandon Savaia) scored the only goal for the Bruins.
The series shifts to Grand Forks Friday and Saturday for 7 p.m. games at Jack Goddard Memorial Arena. Game 5 will be Monday, Feb. 29 in Castlegar.
