The Grand Forks Border Bruins once again had the Nelson Leafs’ number. The Bruins beat the Leafs, the second place team in the KIJHL, 5-2, this time on the road in Nelson.
The Bruins balanced attack saw five different scorers – Connor Gross, Nathan Cory, Michael Rand, Max Newton and Coleton Dawson – lead the way.
GF was down 2-1 heading into the third period in the hostile Nelson Community Centre. Defenceman Cory tied the game at 16:15 assisted by Mitchell Dolman.
Rand, assisted by Gross, put the Bruins ahead at 9:46.
The Bears withheld the Leafs’ pressure and put the game away with two late goals, at 1:30 from Dawson, assisted by Cam MacLennan and Rav Shokar, and at 0:42 from Newton assisted by Lucas Robinson and Graham Watkins.
Dominic Stadnyk was in goal for GF and stopped 30 of 32 Leaf shots.
