The Vernon Source for Sports Tigers scorched the South Okanagan Flames 20-9 in Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League action Saturday night at Kal Tire Place.
“We were very pleased with our performance. That was our best game from start to finish this year,” said Tigers’ coach Myles Brumpton.
It was the 7-2 Tigers’ largest offensive outburst as Connor Buick sniped five goals, Ryan Sarazin bagged four and Darryl Landels and Mitchell Anderson pulled hat tricks. Sarazin has 11 goals and 15 points in three games since returning from Marquette University. The production was spread throughout the lineup as 15 different Tigers found their way onto the scoresheet.
Quinton Harrish added a pair, Bayne Bosquet had a goal and three helpers, Jordan Orr supplied 1+2 and Kyle Dennis also scored single. Jay Seaton and Brett Hanna recorded three helpers each.
“It all starts with our great defensive play which turns into our transition game, which led to a great offensive game. Everything was working the way it was supposed to,” said Brumpton.
The Tigers have allowed a league low 49 goals, 27 fewer than the first-place Kamloops Venom.
Thomas Bella made his first start of the season for the Cats and made 24 saves, he was relieved by Dylan Hiemstra five minutes into the third period.
“I was very proud of our team, they showed great class on the bench. We didn’t get involved with talking trash and we didn’t over-celebrate on goals. We have developed into a classy group,” said Brumpton.
The Flames (2-6) were led by Chris Pond’s four goals and three assists. Liam Kircher added a pair and singles came from Tanner Thompson, Connor Walton and Kaid McLeod.
The Tigers battle the Armstrong Shamrocks (3-6) tonight at Kal Tire Place.
Vernon trails Kamloops (10-0) by six points. The Venom will face off with the Kelowna Raiders (1-9) Thursday night.
Novice Legends fall short
The Shuswap Outlaws edged the R Xtra Storage Novice 2 Legends 7-3 Saturday in minor lacrosse play.
Jesse Godwin, Devin Jameson and Bradley Scarbar supplied singles while goaltender Riley Kimble was named game MVP.
The Penticton Heat burned the Legends 12-3 Sunday at Kal Tire Place.
Devin Jameson scored twice and Nate Benn supplied a single as William Holmes earned game MVP.
Pee Wees record winning weekend
The North Okanagan Pee Wee Bercum Builders Legends froze the Penticton Heat 5-2 Saturday for their first win of the season.
Legends’ captain Braeden McAmmond supplied a hatty, while Owen McKill and Liam Cyr added singles.
“This was a great win and a big confidence boost,” said Legends head coach Rich Zecchel.
The Kelowna Kodiaks clipped the Legends 9-3 Sunday afternoon at Kal Tire Place.
Legends’ assistant captain Quin Williamson sniped a pair from McAmmond and Tanner Witt, and McAmmond added a single.
The Legends stung the Kamloops B2 Rattlers 10-1 in an exhibition game Sunday morning and open their home tournament Friday in Armstrong.
