It was a typical rainy and windy day when 88 players battled the British Open conditions and participated in the annual Bull Moose Golf Tournament at Eaglecrest Golf Club.
This golf tournament has been a staple of Eaglecrest’s tournament repertoire, running for over 30 years. However, this year a new spin was added to the tournament, making it a prostate cancer fundraiser, calling it the Bull Moose Movember Classic Golf Tournament for Prostate Cancer.
Through the generosity of the sponsors and the 88 players, Eaglecrest Golf Club was able to raise $2,832, with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer Canada.
“Prostate Cancer affects approximately the same number of men as breast cancer affects women,” noted Head Golf Professional Brad Wlasiuk.
“With the emergence of Movember, we wanted to help facilitate awareness for November being Prostate Cancer Month,” added Golf Shop manager Brendan Burns.
The Bull Moose tournament has always been a generally for-fun tournament, with the four person scramble format, and using a Peoria scoring system to even the playing field. However, a lot of pride is taken in becoming crowned the Bull Moose Champions.
This year’s winners, who each won a Taylormade putter, trophy and a year’s worth of bragging rights were Mark Conway, Darryl McLean, Mark Phillips and Dave Thompson.
Eaglecrest plans to continue this tournament as a prostate cancer fundraiser, and was ecstatic with the amount raised, considering it was the club’s first attempt at such an event.
