Burdick considers Olympic sport options

Summerland volleyball player attended RBC Training Ground event

Bailey Burdick is considering Olympic sports to pursue.

The 17-year-old Summerland Secondary School student recently attended the RBC Training Ground event in Richmond.

The event gave local athletes an opportunity to test their strength, speed and endurance in front of officials from various Olympic sports.

“It was a very good experience,” he said. “I’m glad I could go.”

He was one of 100 B.C. athletes at the event.

Burdick, a volleyball player with the Summerland Secondary School senior boys Rockets and the Lake Country Volleyball Club U17 team, was encouraged to consider rowing, bobsleigh and skeleton as possible Olympic sports to pursue.

Burdick has played volleyball since he was in Grade 7. For the last year and a half, he has played competitively.

“I put a lot of time into it,” he said.

He is on the court three days a week and on his days off, he trains at Lakeshore Fitness and Health in Summerland, under Huan Pham.

While he enjoys volleyball, Burdick is interested in other sport opportunities.

“I definitely want to investigate these areas,” he said
