Bikinis and boats added extra excitement to Saturday night racing at Saratoga Speedway.
Megan Bergsma of Campbell River beat 11 other beautiful contests to win the fourth annual Bikini Contest, taking home $1,000. Julia Doknjas, also out of Campbell River, was the second runner-up taking home $250 and Chelsea Brennan of Courtenay was the first runner-up taking home $500.
#9 Troy Ordano managed to survive the second boat race of the season to win his first ever Crash to Pass Boat Race. #40 Cam Edward finished a very close second. The Hornet cars, Crash to Pass cars, Roadrunners, Figure 8’s and the Island Mini Stocks were also on the card.
Twenty-four Hornet cars took to the track. #05 Trevor Cannon won the C dash, #12 Raymond Fortier won the B, and the A went to #09 Cameron Phillips. Fortier continued his winning ways into the C heat, winning his first ever heat race. #98 Nigel Neufeld won the B heat, with the A going to #08 Daryn Cahill.
Daryn and Daryl Cahill were in a heated battle in the 30-lap feature race. Daryl and Daryn swapped leads four times through-out the first 25 laps. #01 Kevin Lawrenuk caught up to Daryn on lap 25 to take second, but #02 Daryl Cahill was too much, taking yet another main event win.
In the B division, #81 Jeremy Stormo took the win with second going to #10 Andrew Buchanan and third to #64 MacLaren Inglis.
#59 Ted Dimitrov had a great night in the Roadrunner division, setting fast time of 20.093 seconds in qualifying, winning the dash, heat and dominating the six-lap main event to win every race on the night.
#37 Brandon Steen won the Figure 8 dash, with the eight-lap main event going to #16 Brad Kennedy, who battled with #69 Thomas Dunn to take the win.
#62 Gilles Parenteau had a surprisingly good night in the Island Mini Stock division. Parenteau qualified second slowest in the seven-car field, but dominated the night, winning the dash, heat and held off a hard-charging #96 Mike Nyeste to win the 20-lap feature race.
#73 Sheldon Hopp also had a great night in the Crash to Pass division. After setting fast time of 19.156 in qualifying, he won the dash, heat and battled through the field to win the 20-lap main event, ending a night of dominating performances by individual racers.
EXTRA LAPS This weekend marks the last appearence of the Wilroc Sprint cars, Dwarf cars and the Motorcycles … this is the third appearence of the Wilroc Lite sprint cars, which is the fastest division of race cars at Saratoga Speedway, averaging lap times of 14-16 seconds … so far this year they have averaged 12-14 cars, which makes for some awesome racing … the Bombers and I.M.C.A Modifieds will also be on the card …
