The Butcher Boys Snipers dawned their new custom jerseys modelled after the Brampton Battalion and finished third in the 10-team Vernon Pee Wee Icecraft Hockey Tournament.
The Snipers built up a 3-0 lead hung on to shade the Kamloops Hurricanes 5-4 in the B final Sunday morning at Kal Tire Place.
Goals were supplied by Jackson Sampert (2G), Adam Young (1+2), captain Jaxxon Collard and Damian Glover. Shaun Huizinga pocketed two assists, while Mason Bueckert and Jaret Cooper shared net detective duties.
Butcher Boys opened by bouncing the Kamloops Ice Hawks 6-1 with Collard supplying 2+1 and his wingers Shaun Huizinga (2G) and Damian Glover (1G) also connecting along with Brandon Dyck (1G).
The Snipers had their legs early Saturday morning in a 6-4 victory over the Summerland Jets.
Young, a newbie with only three days service and no practice, picked up his first two goals of the season. Glover also had a deuce, while Braydon Beese and Aiden Trottier rounded out the scoring. Collard added two helpers.
The weary Butcher Boys lost 11-2 to the fresh Hope Wildcats Saturday afternoon with Collard and Young each netting third-period goals.
Hope turned back White Rock 5-4 in the final.
The Stevenson Mechanical Bolts saved their best for last in the Icecraft, skating away with an 8-1 consolation-side rout of the Kamloops Ice Hawks Sunday at Civic Arena.
All three forward units registered a goal before the game was five minutes old. First, Ronan Bedard fired on net, and Logan Thoma banged home the opener. Shaelyn Cecchini then buried a behind-the-net feed from Sapien Joe.
The next scoring play unfolded in identical fashion, with Chris Bond dishing and Ashton Pede finishing. Midway through the first, Joe, Cecchini and Easton Rayner stormed the Kamloops net, and Cecchini poked in her second.
With a strong second effort, Caleb James knocked in his own rebound to put Vernon up 5-0. In the second, Rayner sprang Joe, who scored top shelf.
A sharp-angle shot by Jordyn Morris found the net early in the third, and then Pede wrapped up the scoring with a one-timer, off a perfect pass from Bradley Halvorson.
Quinn Soon, Jackson Soucy, and Levi Vanderdeen, along with Halvorson, locked down the defensive zone, limiting Kamloops to a mere 11 shots.
In Saturday preliminary play, the Bolts lost 4-3 to the Penticton Vikings and fell 5-2 to the White Rock Thunderbirds.
The Bolts carried a 2-1 lead into the third versus Penticton on goals by Morris and Pede. After Penticton forged ahead with two quick ones, ace faceoff artist Bond pulled the puck back to Morris for a shot and Pede slammed in the rebound. The Vikings netted the winner with six minutes to go.
Goalies Ethan Keber and Teja Sheldrake kept the Bolts in the game, combining for 29 saves.
Rayner drilled in a buzzer beater at the end of the first against White Rock. James struck shorthanded late in the second, stealing the puck deep in the Thunderbird zone and banking it in off the goalie.
The Bolts opened the tournament by falling 9-7 to the Kamloops Hurricanes with Bond earning MVP with a hat trick.
Other tournament game MVP awards went to Sheldrake, James and Cecchini, while Heart & Hustle honours were earned by Morris, Ethan Keber, Rayner and Thoma.
The league-leading Banister Blazers took their winning attitude into the Icecraft and finished 2-2.
The Blazers lost 9-3 to White Rock with Cody Beckner, Jayden Veit and Brenden James handling the offence.
Game two saw the Bannister crew fall 6-2 to Kamloops with James and Tydon Louis scoring before the Blazers bottled up Penticton 6-3 and edged Summerland 5-4.
Beckner bagged four goals in the wins, while Aiden Rivard, Tyler Kruysifix, Brayden Riguidel, Trevor Moore, John Spraggs, Griffen Fletcher and Veit netted singles. Dawson Martian had four assists.
The Vernon Corbett Office Plus Royals used Grey Cup weekend to take over the North Okanagan Midget Super Hockey League luxury suite.
Frank Kaempf’s Royals dispatched the Lumby Stars 9-3 Saturday afternoon at Pat Duke Memorial Arena and stuffed the Vernon Seed Orchard Studs 7-2 Sunday night at Civic Arena.
Austin Bosquet rang up seven snipes, including four in Lumby, as the Royals improved to 5-2-1.
Jaden Steinke (1+3) and Adam Roemer (1+2) were also offensive dynamos versus the Stars. Kaden Parton and Brendan Horsefield and Ryan Jakes also tallied for the Royals.
Bosquet pulled the hat trick Sunday night, while Steinke recorded a deuce, Roemer counted 1+2 and Cole Bradley also scored. Horsfield pocketed two assists in support of superb goalie Garrett Adams.
The Vernon Midget/Bantam Female Lakers (sponsored by Lumby Tirecraft) didn’t win a game, but still cleaned up at the Clearwater tournament.
Hockey moms Tina Cousins, Tracy Williamson and Sherry Kineshanko each won a 50/50 draw, while Payton Kineshanko and Demi Williamson each scored a raffle basket with the Carters winning two baskets.
Chelsea Marshall, Taylor Cousins and Vanessa Yaremcio (tourney Most Sportsmanlike Player) won the shooting accuracy competition. Game MVPs went to Madison Johnson, Morgan Holland, Emily Romailler and Emma Carter.
he host Lumby Pee Wee Tier 4 Stars marked Grey Cup Sunday by losing 15-12 to the Penticton Tier 3 Vees.
Captain Tage Kineshanko scored 15 seconds into the game and finished with five snipes, whileMason Robinson earned 2+3 and Tye Krause 2+1. Matt Yaremcio added a single.
The Sladen Moore Pee Wee/Atom Female Lakers bowed 5-1 to host Lillooet Sunday morning with Jaya Chauhan converting from Paige Brayshaw.
Camryn Beacom, assisted by Sarah Claeys and Vanessa Kerr, had Vernon’s goal in a 7-1 loss to Lillooet Saturday.
All 12 players had to play hard and endure long shifts with Katrina Winstanley going the distance in net both games.
Vernon’s Five Star Awards Cougars upended the DCT Chambers Coyotes 7-5 in Bantam Super League play Sunday afternoon at Civic Arena.
Reid Lawrence and Tanner Franje-Gilbert each bagged deuces for the Cougars, Lawrence’s second going high, glove-side after a nifty passing play with Emily Wilson-Francois and Elias Wery. Franje-Gilbert potted the winner on a hard point shot which ricocheted off the end boards and off the goalie’s pad.
Wyatt Gatzke, Keenon Jeberg and Brayden Beacom contributed singles in support of Jordan Foster and Nick Maglio.
Coyote goals came from Jacob Brewer, Zach Laranjo, Colton Schaper-Kotter, Chris Aldrich and Halle Wiggins-Wilson.

Beacom pulled the hat trick for Five Star Awards, singles going to Lawrence, Franje-Gilbert, Dexter Weiten and Jadon Foster. Weiten had three helpers.

Interior Savings Just Orange was determined to get a win in November.
Just Orange snapped a six-game winless streak and recorded their first Bantam Super League win since opening night in October with an 11-2 drubbing of the Salmon Arm Fix Auto Senators Saturday at Kal Tire Place.
Michael Pusey recorded a hat trick for the winners while Seb Wenger added 2+1. Chase Batchelor (1+2), Dakota Becker, Braydie Allan-Webber and Brogan Houston, Mac Gilchrist and Evan Trottier rounded out the Orange scoring to support Caedon Bellmann.
The Lumby Stars, sponsored by Terry’s Automotive and Irly Bird Building Centre, earned a 7-4 Atom league win over Winfield McDonald’s Bruins Saturday in Lumby.
Bryden Murray supplied 2+1 for the Stars, who got 1+2 from Ryder Quibell and other singles came from Tori Maltman, Kyle Wheeler, Jace Catt and Mia Maltman.
James Wraight and Rylie Dewhirst provided clutch assists, while Jack Laventure and Zachary Young supported the offence. Dewhirst, Faith Seehaver, and Noah and Andrew Ranelli were bold on defence in front of Cameron Smithson. Zachary Young took the hard hat.
The 6-2 Stars host the seven-team Lumby Monashee Classic Tournament this weekend.
Lumby’s first tournament game on Saturday is against the Vernon Red Devils at 7:30 a.m.
Also on Saturday, Lumby will take on the Kamloops Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m.
The Sunday game for Lumby is against Kelowna Bruins at 8:30 a.m.
The semifinals go at 1 and 2:30 p.m. with the final scheduled for 4 p.m Sunday.
