The the North Okanagan Butcher Boys Legends toppled the Kelowna Kodiaks 8-6 in Midget lacrosse play Saturday night.
The Legends, who were missing four regulars, dug deep and got an opening goal from Mike Hanley before the Kodiaks answered back with three goals. Jake Thomson ended the first-period offence for Butcher Boys.
The second period started off the same as the first with Dustin Copeland sniping a shot and the Kodiaks responding. Jordan Orr found the back of the net twice in three minutes, assisted by Conor Payne,Hanley and Liam MacPhee. Kelowna replied with two more to take the 6-5 after two.
The third period saw Kelowna taking a lot of penalties and the Legends took advantage, scoring three times. Copeland, Payne and Hanley provided the goals with Orr, MacPhee and Payne suppling the assists.
Sean Connors, Mitchell Anderson, Jonathan Grant, Chelsea Wiesgerber and Liam Drabiuk showed tough defence while netminder Tyler Landry made some key saves.
The Nor/Val Rentals-Hi Pro Sports Pee Wee A2 Legends won three weekend games, starting with a 15-0 ambush of host Merritt on Saturday.
Call-up goaltender Bradley Gorrigan and Jakob Schweb shared the shutout. Jayden Hunter supplied 3+3, while Riley Swiscoski also pulled the hat trick and Jaxson Cummings and Jake Pelletier each earned 2+3.
Niklas Luttmerding and Chase Bronson each counted 1+2, while Conor Webb, Cole Martin and Spencer King also scored. Dawson Boyce provided two assists.
On Sunday, the Legends swept the host Penticton Heat 7-4 and 5-4 at McLaren Arena.
In the morning game, Chase Wirth led the way with two goals, while Jayden Hunter, Shelby Connors, Martin, Swiscoski and Luttmerding added singles. Bronson bagged three assists.
In the afternoon tilt, the Legends got two goals from Swiscoski and singles from Jake Pelletier, Webb, Luttmerding and Hunter. Martin pocketed a pair of helpers.
“The Legends have played a variety of lacrosse teams this year and Penticton was definitely one that played a hard and rough style,” said Legends’ coach Harold Mann.
“We were extremely happy with the way the kids conducted themselves and showed an immense amount of emotional control during the games.”
In Pee Wee B1 action, the unbeaten Gilbert Parts/Armstrong Co-Op Legends stopped Shuswap 9-4 at Hassen Memorial Arena.
Tyson Reschke, Colton Greeno and Cam Lock each scored twice for the Legends, while Sean Howard, Zach Benn and Mason McLennan contributed singles. James Francis had two helpers in support of Novice call-up goalie Troy Cuzzetto.
