Cadets bring home silver medals

Current and former South Surrey athletes place in Cadet Biathalon Provincial Championship

A South Surrey cadet brought home a medal from the Cadet Biathalon Provincial Championship competition – the first major race of the winter biathalon season.

Nicole Tupy of White Rock Air Cadet 907 Squadron took home a silver medal in the senior female category at the Feb. 2 competition held at Mount Washington in Courtney.

Competitors – which included close to 100 cadet biathletes from across B.C. – had to free-style ski six km and shoot 15 rounds at 50-m distances.

Former Semiahmoo Secondary student Kevin Fierling of Surrey Army Cadet 2812 Corp took home a silver medal in the senior male category.

Fierling, who lives in North Vancouver, has been selected to compete at the National Championship at Valcartier, Que. from March 1-9.
