Maple Ridge collegiate water polo player Allison Campbell was named the NCAA’s Western Division player of the week last week after scoring nine goals and registering 13 steals.

Campbell plays for the No. 14-ranked University of Maryland, and helped the Terrapins to a pair of Western Division victories over ranked opponents during a perfect 3-0 weekend, leading the team in scoring.

Campbell scored a pair of goals as Maryland kicked off the weekend with a non-conference victory over Brown University. She collected a hat trick, including the game-winner, in the Terps 12-10 win over division rival, No. 16 Hartwick College.

Campbell was at the center of an historic victory for the Terps as they knocked off the highest ranked opponent in school history, No. 11 Indiana University, 9-8, in the weekend finale. Campbell tallied a goal and an assist, and six steals in the win.

The accolade marks the fifth weekly award of Campbell’s career and second of the 2012 campaign after she earned top honors on Jan. 30.
