Campbell River Ravens set for Junor B lacrosse home opener

Junior B lacrosse is back on the North Island. After years without a local Junior B team, lacrosse fans once again have good reason to cheer.

Junior B lacrosse is back on the North Island. After years without a local Junior B team, lacrosse fans once again have good reason to cheer.

The Ravens’ roster is drawn from talented athletes who’ve developed their skills after years of playing in their respective Campbell River and the Comox Valley minor lacrosse associations. These 17-to-21-year-olds have been practicing hard in preparation for the 2017 PNWJLL season.

Last weekend served as the inaugural test for the squad as they travelled to Victoria for their first game.

Although the Ravens came up short in a close game, the coaching staff and players had to be pleased with their season-opening performance.

The boys, most playing their first ever Junior B game, were up against a well-established opponent in the Saanich Tigers.

Refusing to be intimidated, the Ravens played with grit and determination.

Rookie goalie Diego Such was outstanding. It was a spirited game that proved these boys are not just here to play, but here to win.

The team is appreciative of those in the local business community that have stepped up with player sponsorships.

The Ravens’ home opener is this Sunday, May 7 at Strathcona Gardens. Gates open at 3 p.m.

Admission is $5 for individuals or $10 for a whole family. Minor lacrosse players get in for free.
