The Campbell River Storm continued their dominance in the VIJHL playoffs Friday night at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Pearce Messer opened the scoring for the Storm on the power play just under five minutes into the game, but Andy Westhaver got it back for the Wolves three minutes later.
Unfortunately for the visitors, however, the Storm showed once again why they came out of the regular season in top spot. Aiden Sutherland put the Storm up one goal before the first period was out, and the team continued to roll over the Wolves through the second.
Logan Cursley, Dawson Frank and Brett Kinley all found the twine behind goaltender Jordan Spandli in the second, which spurred a change in net for the Wolves.
Luke Sheldrake wouldn’t fare much better, however, as the Storm continued their offensive onslaught in the third. Messer added a second just over a minute into the period, Mitch Stapley would make it 7-1 and Jake McKenzie would round out the scoring before all was said and done.
The Storm are now 7-1 through these playoffs and are one game away from advancing to the league finals to take on the winner of the series between the Nanaimo Buccaneers and the Saanich Braves, which Nanaimo currently leads 2-0.
The Storm could finish off the Wolves down in Colwood tomorrow night, but if they don’t, they’ll be back at home on Tuesday night.
