Canada’s national rugby team – which includes Peninsula talent Adam Kleeberger on its roster – earned a hard-fought, come-from-behind tie versus Japan Monday night, in the team’s third game of the Rugby World Cup.

Canada now sports a 1-1-1 record at the tournament – which is being staged in New Zealand. They fell behind Japan early before getting a try and penalty kick from Ander Monro with five minutes left to tie the score.

Kleeberger’s crew will face its toughest test of the World Cup Sunday, when they face New Zealand’s All Blacks.

A handful of Bayside Rugby members, including club president Jonathan Boughen, are currently in New Zealand supporting Kleeberger and his Canadian mates.

Kleeberger played junior rugby with Bayside before moving on to the University of Victoria.
