The Vernon Canadians delivered on Father’s Day, pocketing a pair of Mosquito baseball wins last weekend in West Kelowna.
The C’s opened with a 16-3 drubbing of West Kelwona, and then caged the Kamloops River Dogs 12-2.
After Maguire Lauridsen struck out the West Kelowna side in the first inning, Chase Batchelor, Brayden Beacom, Lauridsen and Carter Morris all stole home to max out their runs.
Left fielder Eric Foufoulas, second baseman Koll Cherkowski and first baseman Ryan Gamage all made plays to retire the hosts in the second innning. Lincoln Connor brought home Shaun Huizinga with an RBI single, Jackson Soucy drove in two more runs.
The Canadians went up 12-3 at the end of the third as Morris, who took over pitching duties, and Caden Colmorgen provided RBI, and then stole home.
In the fifth inning, Foufoulas and Soucy slid to beat throws to home, and Morris drove in Lauridsen.
The Canadians carried their strong sticks against the River Dogs, with Lincoln Connor hitting a single and Koll Cherkowski a nice triple. Gamage struck out one batter.
Great base stealing saw the Canadians take an 8-1 lead at the end of the second, and Batchlor struck out the side in the third.
Batchelor, Foufoulas and Soucy all crossed the plate in the fourth, and Caden Colmorgen brought in Koll Cherkowski for the last run.
Beacom made a nice diving catch behind the plate to catch a pop fly in the fifth inning, and Colmorgen shut down the River Dog bats in the sixth.
In Mosquito House playoff action Tuesday, the Kal Tire Red Hawks forced a third game in their series with a 14-1 win over the Wayside Press Green Giants.
The Red Hawks’ Sapien Joe silenced the Giants’ bats in the first inning with three strikeouts.
With Sawyer Bliss on the mound for the Giants, Tyler Sedlacek, Ryan Gamage and Joe each singled, and Eric Foufoulas, Sedlacek, Gamage and Nakota Parker scored to make it 4-0.
Joe struck out two more batters in the second inning, but Lincoln Connor stole home to get the Giants on the board.
The Hawks replied with a double by Eli Nahirny. Jackson Soucy scored Chase Batchelor with an RBI single, and Nick Walker drove Nahirny home.
The Giants’ second baseman Matthew Hansen turned a nice double play in the third inning, catching a fly ball and throwing to first.
In the fourth inning, the Hawks scored one on a walk, a Nahirny connected to bring in Joe and Batchelor.
Parker took the mound for the Hawks in five, striking out two to hold the Green crew.
The Red Hawks score four more runs to end the game.
Game 3 went Thursday night.
In Game 1 Monday night, the Wayside crew and Green Giants battled to a 7-7 extra-inning draw, but were unable to determine a winner as darkness set in. Resuming the game Tuesday, Carter Morris drove in Matthew Winn for the winning run in the 10th inning to give the Giants a 13-12 decision.
