For the second straight year the Cariboo Canucks are the Nk’maplqs Challenge Cup Hockey Tournament champions.

The Canucks successfully defended last year’s tournament win with a 12-2 drubbing of Quilchena in the final.

The tournament, which ran from April 22-24, was held at Vernon’s Wesbild Centre.

This is the third time the Canucks have captured the tournament title in the seven years of the tournament’s existence.

“It was a pretty good tournament,” said Canucks coach Cecil Grinder. “It’s kind a thing we do every year at the end of the season. I take the boys down there and we have a lot of fun.”

Canucks player Wilfred Robbins was named MVP, while Grant Johnson was named to the all-star forward team and former Williams Lake Timberwolf Drew Rose was named to the all-star defense team.

Meahwhile, the Williams Lake Longhorns Oldtimers squad was busy capturing its fifth straight tournament crown.

The Longhorns downed Quilchena and the Okanagan Totems (the host team from Vernon) in both the semi-final, 9-3, and the final, 5-3.
