The University of Victoria Vikes mark the first anniversary for the CARSA athletic centre with a community open house this Saturday, May 7.
The Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities features more than 190,000 sq. ft. of floor space and includes a 2,100-seat performance gym, multipurpose fieldhouse, two-level fitness weight training area, a climbing centre, dance space, dedicated TRX and spin classrooms, yoga studios, squash and racquetball courts, a rowing ergometer centre, a sports injury clinic and more.
The free community open house runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes guided tours every 30 minutes, a variety of free classes and prize draws.
Fitness classes include Detox Yoga (10 to 10:45 a.m. in the Mind Body Studio), Beginner TRX (11 to 11:45 a.m. in the TRX Studio), Spin 45 (12 to 12:45 p.m. in the Spin Studio) and Cardio and Core Quickie (1 to 1:45 p.m. in the Movement Studio).
The minimum age to use the fitness weight centre is 14 with an accompanying adult. Those 16 and older can use facility without adult supervision.
