A trio of Valley Royals athletes impressed at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships last weekend in Brandon, Man.

Abbotsford’s Joshua Carsience took to the skies in the pole vault, and earned a silver medal in the U18 men division. The MEI student smashed his personal best jump by 20 centimetres to leap 3.90 metres at the event.

Carsience also won gold in the men’s junior pole vault event at the B.C. high school track and field championships in June.

Elliot Payne finished fifth overall in the U18 men’s javelin competition, tossing for a distance of 57.88m. Also competing in Brandon was Liam Espedido, who finished 10th overall in the U18 men’s high jump. He cleared 1.83m at the event.
