There is a whole lot of local flavour in the two newest additions to the UFV Cascades men’s soccer team.
Abbotsford’s Parman Minhas and Surrey’s Charandeep Rangi have officially been signed to the club for the fall.
The pair are teammates with the U18 squad of Surrey’s Coastal FC, and hope to bring some of that chemistry to the green and white.
Minhas, a Grade 12 student at Abbotsford Traditional Secondary, will pursue a criminology degree at UFV and success on the pitch with the Cascades.
Cascades men’s team head coach Tom Lowndes said his speed and passing should help push the offensive pace for UFV.
“He’s an attacking winger who looks to take people on and causes problems for a lot of defenders,” Lowndes said of Minhas. “I’m looking forward to seeing how he transitions to the university game and our style of play.”
“It’s close to home, and the criminology program is really good,” Minhas said, reflecting on why he chose to sign with the Cascades. “I know a lot of guys on the team so it’ll be easy to bond with them, and I like Tom a lot as a coach. I want to help the team host a playoff game next season and go to nationals as well.”
Rangi is an alum of the B.C. provincial team and won a silver medal with Team B.C. at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games. He plans to study business at UFV.
“He’s a good box-to-box midfielder, strong in the tackle, with good distribution skills and very technical,” Cascades head coach Tom Lowndes said of Rangi. “I think he’ll adjust well to the pace of Canada West, and I’m excited to see him join the program.”
