Castlegar, Beaver Valley skate to a draw

A late Castlegar Rebels goal salvaged a tie against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks Saturday.

Following an impressive 6-3 win over Castegar Friday night, the Beaver Valley Nitehawks missed an opportunity to tie the Castlegar Rebels in KIJHL standings Saturday by skating to a 2-2 tie with the Rebels at the Castlegar Rec Complex.

Thanks to a late goal by veteran Castlegar forward Diego Bartlett, the Rebels escaped with the tie leaving Beaver Valley still two points back of its Neil Murdoch division rivals.

After a scoreless first period, Aaron Petten put the Rebs up 1-0 at 5:46 of the second period. Kurt Black quickly countered for BV to even the game up at 4:12 of the second.

Riley Brandt put the visitors up 2-1 just over a minute into the third stanza; a goal that looked like it might stand up as the game winner.

After Bartlett’s goal at 3:17 of the third, neither team was able to score in overtime and the game ended in a draw.

Jordan Gluck garnered first star in net for the Rebels stopping 42 of 44 shots, while his Beaver Valley counterpart Zach Perehudoff had a strong performance of his own stopping 35 Castlegar shots.

The Nitehawks play a pivotal game against the Nelson Leafs in Nelson at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Nelson leads the division with 52 points, while the Nitehawks remain in third spot with 47.
