The Castlegar Golf Club & RV Park is gearing up for another great season on the links.
Friday, March 29 was opening day for the driving range and a number of people took advantage of sunny skies and warmer temperatures to begin tuning their swings.
Last year, the course opened for full play on April 18 and head professional Pat Biln said he hopes things will get into full swing, pun intended, in a couple of weeks.
“The shovels have been put away,” Biln said. “We hope there won’t be any more snow.”
Don and Gail Burton of Slocan Valley were hitting shots at the range, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the chance to get into game shape a bit early.
Don Burton said he hopes to cut his handicap in half this year.
“We love this course,” he said. “We play here about five times per week. The greens are tricky and it’s a great layout.”
Brothers Nick and Ryan Jmaeff were also at the range, both excellent golfers who sport scratch and 12 handicaps, respectively. The brothers said it was their first time hitting balls this season.
A number of membership options are currently available at discounted rates for all ages of players. Biln said initiation fees may also be waived for new members.
If time doesn’t allow for full rounds, the driving range is also a great place to head to. A token for a bucket of balls is just $4.50 and an unlimited range pass is only $179.
The Castlegar Golf Club & RV Park is located at 1602 Aaron Road in Castlegar and has hosted a number of fun tournaments and events over the years.
