Pair of players hoping to make an impact in second half of PacWest season

The CBC Bearcats men’s volleyball team has added a pair of players to its roster for the PacWest regular season’s return in January.

The Bearcats announced on Wednesday that they have signed outside hitter Ian Regier from Manitoba and multi-position player Quin Reimer from Prince George.

Regier was a standout player at Winnipeg’s Calvin Christian High School, winning AAA high school provincials once and placing third another year. He also was a member of the 204 club volleyball team from Manitoba, which placed fifth at U-17 nationals in 2016.

Bearcats men’s volleyball head coach Jason Warkentin said he’s pleased to add Regier.

“Ian is an extremely athletic and committed athlete,” he stated. “One of the things that immediately stands out as you watch him play is his ability to score in a variety of ways. His athleticism allows him to be quite dynamic in all areas of the court. He also understands his strengths and growth areas very well, a mark of a mature athlete. We are excited about the competitive, winning mindset he will bring to our program.”

Reimer, a product of the Prince George Kodiaks club program, has experience in the libero, setter and outside hitter positions. Warkentin said he should be a good fit on the Bearcats.

“I have watched Quin play a bit over the past year and am impressed with his desire to learn and get better,” he said. “There will definitely be a learning curve for him as he enters the college level, but his leadership gifts and commitment to excellence provide him with a good foundation to make the necessary steps towards becoming a strong player in the PacWest.”

The team returns to PacWest regular season action on Jan. 6, when they host the Capilano Blues.
