Cermaq Outlaws will represent MIWSL at B.C.s

Campbell River women's soccer team wins league title to earn trip to provincials

The Cermaq Outlaws will represent the Mid-Island Women’s Soccer League at this year’s B.C. championships, which begin the second weekend in April.

The Outlaws clinched first place in the MIWSL on Feb. 15 when second-place Oceanside United dropped a 4-0 decision to sixth-place Nanaimo. It was United’s final game of the season and their 44 points on a 14-2-2 record left the Outlaws in the driver’s seat with 46 points and two games remaining on a 15-0-1 record.

The Feb. 15 match was the only game played this past weekend. “The season is winding down now,” said league spokesperson Selina Baker. “The games being played are make-up games to finish off the (18-game) season.”

This Sunday’s (Feb. 22) games are both in Campbell River at Willow Point #4, with River City FC taking on Nanaimo at 12 p.m. and the Outlaws facing the Shooters at 2 p.m.

Emma Greene of the CVUSC Revolution leads the league scoring with 23 goals while Carrie Braithwaite of the Outlaws is second with 17 and Shannon Marshall of the Shooters has 15.

Pamela Richer of Oceanside is the shutout leader with 11 while Melissa Townsend of the Revolution has four.
