A jacket from Nelson’s only Cyclone Taylor Cup-winning junior hockey team will return to town after all.
The family of late Leafs trainer Gerry Koehle is donating five of his jackets from hockey and baseball teams from the 1950s and ’60s to the Nelson Sports Museum.
Among them is a 1968 jacket awarded to the Nelson Junior Maple Leafs team who won the franchise’s only Cup. Koehle was a trainer on that team and brother to then-head coach Fritz Koehle.
Gerry Koehle’s family reached out to museum caretaker Bill McDonnell after reading a Star story earlier this month about one of the ’68 jackets appearing for sale on eBay.
