The Action Sports Extreme Stunt Show is taking the wheeled entertainment outside the Ridge Meadows Home show to a whole new level.
“It’s geared around family, kids fitness and fun,” said organizer Travis Franklin.
In addition to the jaw-dropping demos that the show has seen in the past, this year there will be more participation by show-goers. Professional and experienced extreme sport cyclists will teach them the ropes.
“It’s designed to grow the sport, in general,” explained Franklin.
So, while their dads are in the Home Show, taking in the barbecue school, kids can strap on a helmet and jump on a scooter or bike.
The show will be held at the Albion Fairgrounds, in the corral by the shuttle drop-off area.
The event will feature local pro riders, including Nate Berkheimer, who is one of the organizers, and Liam Wallace, who is just breaking in as a pro trick rider. Ryan Tougas, a pro BMX racer, is also part of the show, along with Corey Walsh, Travis Sexsmith, Jared Ennis and other guest riders.
So, at a venue like the full-size half pipe, there will be demonstrations by pro and intermediate riders, and also an opportunity for riders to try it, with help from instructors, with bike and helmet provided.
Scooters are increasingly popular at area skate parks, and there will be a “try it” session on these as well, on a scooter course.
“They’re event doing backflips on them,” noted Franklin.
There will be an entire BMX youth track, and a cyclocross track aimed at allowing moms and dads to try one of the latest cycling disciplines.
In each case, bikes, helmets and instruction will be provided on the “try it sessions.” They will be open to adults and children during all three days of the home show.
“We’re turning into a full extreme sports show. Come in and try it,” said Franklin.
“We want to make the outside of the Home Show an exciting place to be.”
