Chargers capture boys Island title

Duncan Christian School’s senior boys volleyball team swept their way through the Island single-A tournament last week to book a spot at provincials.

The host team for the tournament, the DCS Chargers beat Brookes Shawnigan Lake 25-12, 25-17, 25 19 in the opening match, and defeated Ucluelet Secondary 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 in the last match of the day to claim first place.

Ucluelet got past Brookes Shawnigan 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 to take second place.

Adam Kapteyn of Duncan Christian was named tournament MVP, while teammates Mike and Matt Brandsma were picked for the all-star team.

Albert Achoba and Pedro Jereissati Cavalcante of Brookes and Diego Corlazzoni and MacArthur Costigan of Ucluelet rounded out the all-stars.

Currently ranked sixth in the province, the Chargers will head to Terrace for the single-A provincial championships on Nov. 24-26.
