Team Green picked a fabulous time to win their first soccer game of the season.

Roadrunner Ty Cheyne scored twice, including the winner with six minutes left, as Green stunned the Orange Dudes 3-2 in Vernon Cup Under 14/15 boys division play Friday night.

Ethan Ehman also scored for Green, while Joe Eggert and Garrett Birch responded for Orange (1-1 in Cup action).

The White Knights brushed back the Navy 3-2 in other U14/15 action Friday night at Marshall Field.

Mexico’s Andre Soto Alvarez put the Knights ahead in the sixth minute when he converted a penalty kick past keeper Dylan Peoples after a hand ball ruling. Chris Moore equalized in the 21st minute. Red Robin Man of the Match Reece Hawthorne gave the Knights the lead at 35 minutes after a nice feed from speedy Kyle Karens, who controlled the flanks all night. Kevin Schilter levelled the score at 45 minutes with Hawthorne netting the winner five minutes later. The Knights are 1-1 in Cup play.

Declan Stevenson ran miles and was dangerous in tight for the Navy (0-2 in playoffs)

The Vernon Cup winds up today at Marshall Field and MacDonald Park.
