Anthony Ruggiero scored once and added an assist against his old team as the Kelowna Chiefs stuffed the North Okanagan Knights 3-1 Friday night at Nor-Val Sports Centre.
Ruggiero (2nd goal), who joined Kelowna late last season, sniped the winner midway through the second period then drew a helper on Chase Astorino’s (1st) insurance marker with 5:35 to play in the frame.
Josh Kobelka opened the scoring for Kelowna (7-10-2-1) late in period one.
Vernon’s Scott Latwat put North Okanagan (2-15-1-2) on the board with a powerplay goal with 1:31 to play in regulation. Layne Greene, another Vernon product, and Knights’ captain Dryden Profeit earned assists.
Chiefs’ backup Josh Shank recorded 32 saves for his second win. Mitch Profeit was named the Knights’ game star for his 45-save showing.
North Okanagan, losers of seven straight, entertain the Summerland Steam (10-7-0-1) in a 3 p.m. matinee today in Armstrong.
Host Summerland fell 3-2 to the Golden Rockets Friday.
In other KIJHL play Friday night, Vernon’s Brett Jewell drew an assist on the opening goal as the Osoyoos Coyotes thumped the host Revelstoke Grizzlies 7-1 at the Forum.
