Using a sweep of a double header with the White Rock Tritons Saturday at South Surrey Athletic Park, the Whalley Chiefs moved of the basement of the B.C. Premier Baseball League.
The Chiefs topped White Rock by scores of 9-3 and 1-0 at South Surrey Athletic Park, ending a four-game win streak. Whalley improved to 4-13 (won-lost) and climbed into 11th place in the 13-team league, four games out of eighth place and the PBL playoffs.
The Chiefs did most of their scoring early in the first game, crossing the plate twice in the first inning and adding four more runs in the second. After White Rock scored three in their half of the second inning, the Chiefs added two more in the third and never looked back.
Catcher Braeden Allemann led Chiefs batters with a three-for-for game at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring once. Conner Chorpita had a single and a double in four at-bats, scoring twice and driving in one run. Daniel Singer contributed with two RBIs and a run scored.
Graham Bailey got the win for Wahlley, pitching all seven innings. The Tritons scored their three runs, all earned, on six singles and three walks. Bailey struck out six White Rock batters, and the Pacific Academy high school student evened his won-lost record at 1-1.
Brandon Bohn threw a complete-game shutout in game two, collecting five strikeouts along the way while limiting Tritons batters to four singles and a walk.
Cole Hunt and Chorpita had two hits each for Whalley, with Hunt scoring the lone run in the top of the sixth inning.
The Chiefs will play two mid-week games at Whalley Stadium, hosting the North Shore Twins Tuesday and the Vancouver Cannons on Thursday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
