Chilliwack swimmer Marlene Herrling vacuumed up six individual and three team medals at last weekend’s 55+ B.C. Games in Vernon.
Competing in the 70-74 women’s division, Herrling grabbed gold in the 25 and 50 metre breaststrokes. She scored silver in the 25, 50 and 200m freestyles and 25m backstroke. She picked up three bronze medals in relay races.
Paula Quick was with her on the 4x25m relay team and earned two individual medals.
Competing in the women’s 65-69 division, she bagged bronze in the 400m freestyle and the 100m individual medley.
Chilliwackians combined to win 30 individual medals, including 10 gold.
Janet Ross had a productive time in track and field. Competing in the women’s 65-69 division, Ross was a first place finisher in the 800, 1500 and 5000m races and earned bronze in the 400m.
Janette Wood was a double gold medalist in the 55-59 women’s division where she led the pack in the 800 and 1500m races. She was also part of the Fraser Valley’s gold medal winning 4x400m relay team.
Jack Laughlin was a silver medalist in the men’s 55-59 50m race and helped the Fraser Valley’s 4x100m relay crew to a second place finish.
Ken Hirst placed second in the men’s 65-69 10 kilometre road race.
Linda Anderson finished second in the women’s 65-69 recreational cycling time trial.
Chilliwackians dominated on the golf course where Richard Yule and Bill Messinger won gold. Martino Rodrigues and Maria Walters snagged silver while Helen Harris-McIntosh, Marie Kimmerly, Ruth Atterton, Kathy Estey, Colin Grant, Lucien Philippon and Richard May each won bronze.
Dennis Andrews was a gold medalist in archery and Gerald Froese won silver in cross-country mountain biking.

Zefferino Baldonero teamed with Coquitlam’s Carol Adams for a win in 55+ mixed pairs bocce ball.
Sue Thompson teamed with Sidney’s Betty Dargie for a win in women’s 75-79 doubles badminton.
The McFee’s, Allen and Norma, won gold in 55+ pairs cribbage with Vicki Danielson and Silvia Law sliding into second.
Helen De Jean and Pat Ruelle won gold in 65+ doubles darts.
Ruelle and Lyle Yolkowski earned bronze in the 65+ mixed doubles event and Yolkowski won a second bronze, teaming with Hedley McMullan in men’s 65+ doubles.
Bonnie Cunningham paddled for the first place FLCC Flashdragons in the women’s 55+ dragon boat event.
Barry Stewart went to war with the gold medal winning men’s 60+ United soccer squad.
Sue Klink laced ’em up for the silver medal winning Okanagan Prime in the women’s 55+ soccer tournament.
On the ice, Chilliwack’s Dill Klaus, Mel Folkman and Richard Kranabetter skated for the Valley Seniors, the second place team in the men’s 75+ hockey division.
Rich Kramp joined the bronze medal winning Cloverdale Cowboys in the men’s 60+ division.
Gordon Von Hollen joined a trio of Agassizans for a silver medal win in floor curling.
