Chilliwack’s Julia Tuchscherer and Marijke Duralia helped Team B.C. to a gold medal win at the Canadian U-15 Girl’s National Championships.
The tournament was held Aug. 6-11 in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Team B.C. went 5-1, capturing the crown with a 65-56 win over Ontario on Saturday. It was sweet revenge for the British Columbians, whose only loss came in their opening game, a 59-51 defeat vs Ontario.
Otherwise, Tuchscherer and Duralia led B.C. to wins over Saskatchewan (77-68), Nova Scotia (67-59) and Quebec (57-56) en-route to the gold medal match.
Tuchscherer, a GW Graham student, averaged six points and three rebounds per game, playing 17.92 minutes per match.
In just over 21 minutes per game, Duralia averaged six points and 5.6 rebounds and was named a second-team tournament all-star.
Meanwhile, Julia’s older sister, Deanna Tuchscherer, played for Team B.C. in the U-17 tournament, leading her crew to bronze.
The GWG senior started strong with nine points and one rebound in a 98-26 whomping of Nova Scotia.
Team B.C. kept rolling with convincing wins over New Brunswick (77-43) and Manitoba (65-42), but an 82-61 semi-final loss to Quebec knocked them out of title contention.
Tuchscherer had 15 points and five rebounds in the bronze medal match, a 65-62 win over Alberta.
She was named a second-team tourney all-star.
