Two Chilliwack Curling Club teams have claimed provincial titles.
Ken Watson and Janet Klebe skipped rinks to gold at last weekend’s 2017 B.C. Masters Curling Championships, which were held Mar. 7-12 at the Cranbrook Curling Club.
Sixteen teams took part, eight on the men’s side and eight on the women’s side.
On the men’s side, Watson emerged from round-robin play with a 6-1 record.
A 10-7 win vs Garry Beaudry’s Trail rink sent Watson’s team into the final where they faced Cranbrook’s Gerry Kent.
A tense game went into an extra end, with Watson scoring a deuce to win 4-2.
Team Watson featured two curlers from the 1985 B.C. team that competed at the Brier, Watson and Doug Meger.
The team was rounded out by Dale Hockley and Vic Miller.
On the women’s side, Klebe’s crew included Kerri Miller, Jane Adam and Laurie Shimizu.
They also lost just one game on the way to their gold medal, finishing round robin play with a 6-1 record.
A win over Vancouver’s Joanne Mick secured their spot in the final.
The gold medal match saw them beat Qualicums’s Lynne Noble 5-4.
Watson and Klebe will now represent B.C. at nationals, running April 2-9 in Guelph, ON.
