At least two Chilliwack football stars are leaving home to play junior.
The BC Football Conference held its ‘signing day’ Thursday, opening the window for its six teams to ink graduating high school and community footballers.
The Okanagan Sun fired off a tweet about the signing of GW Graham Grizzly linebacker Miguel Wood. Langley did the same, welcoming Chris Derksen to the Rams family.
The Husker twitter feed was silent.
Wood was a core player from the very start of the GWG football program. In Grade 8 Wood part of a Grizzly team that advanced to the provincial championship game before losing to the Notre Dame Jugglers.
He was part of back to back B.C. championships at the junior varsity level in 2013 and 2014. The last two seasons Wood helped GWG’s senior varsity squad get to the provincial semi-finals.

Derksen, a Chilliwack secondary school student and Chilliwack Minor Football grad, played midget football last year for the Langley Stampeders. The six-foot-three and 300 pound defensive/offensive lineman helped the Stamps win their second straight provincial title in December.

The BCFC season kicks off July 29 with Wood and his Sun opening against the defending champion Westshore Rebels.
Derksen’s Rams host the Vancouver Island Raiders.
