Chilliwack gymnast to compete in Pan American Championships

Canadian national teamer Zachary Clay travels to Peru in September for international competition.

Chilliwack’s Zachary Clay is heading to Peru this September for a major international gymnastics event.

The 2018 Senior Pan American Championships take place Sept. 14-16 in Lima.

Clay is one of five men named to Canada’s artistic gymnastics team along with Rene Cournoyer (Quebec), Cory Paterson (Quebec), Darren Wong (Vancouver) and Samuel Zakutney (Ottawa).

Competition starts Sept. 14 with team qualification and all-around/aparatus finals.

The top eight teams will compete in team finals on Sept. 16.

This meet is a qualifier for a bigger event running next summer. A successful outing may have Clay heading back to Peru for the 2019 Pan American Games.
